Sirens and Whistles

Outdoor warning sirens are located on the north and south edges of the community.  During severe weather, the sirens are activated remotely by the Black Hawk County Emergency Management Commission. The sirens are intended to warn those people who may be outside during a dangerous threat to seek shelter.  Weather sirens are tested on the first Wednesday of each month at 10:00 A.M.

Residents can sign up to receive text alerts for severe weather at Black Hawk County Emergency Management  or Alert Iowa

The "whistle" is located near City Hall in the center of town and sounds automatically at 7:00 am, Noon, 1:00 PM and 6:00 PM daily except for Sundays and holidays. The whistle is not sounded during severe weather events.
